23 additional storage facilities in Colorado and Illinois are slated to go from green to greener in 2018.
Denver, CO – November 27, 2018 – Pivot Energy is pleased to announce its partnership with Extra Space Storage (NYSE: EXR), to further EXR’s mission to reduce its carbon footprint by adding 2.7 megawatts (MW) of new solar projects. EXR selected Pivot Energy to develop and build solar projects across 23 EXR locations in Colorado and Illinois, with the environmental impact equivalent to taking more than 600 cars off the road annually.
“Solar is now a big part of our corporate sustainability program, and part of our ongoing effort to be good corporate citizens,” said Joe Margolis, Chief Executive Officer of Extra Space Storage. “Generating rooftop solar energy production in lieu of using energy from carbon emitting sources furthers this commitment and leverages a previously unused asset within our portfolio – our rooftops – and provides cost savings from reduced utility expense.”
Extra Space has an industry-leading role in installing solar panels by converting their units to solar since 2010. Certain properties have seen as much as an 80% reduction in utility costs since installation. By maximizing state and federal incentives, Pivot is helping Extra Space to reduce operating expenses and electricity usage while further greening its operations.
“Extra Space is a demonstrated leader not only in the self-storage market but also in environmental stewardship,” said Rick Hunter, Pivot Energy’s CEO. “They are also a leader in the U.S. commercial solar rooftop space. In 2017 alone they generated over 16.8 megawatt hours (MWhs) through on-site solar panels.”
Daniel Bray, CEO of BrayTel introduced EXR and Pivot Energy. “I was thrilled to be able to identify the right partner to help Extra Space expand their solar footprint in Colorado and Illinois,” noted Mr. Bray. “We take great pride in helping our customers navigate the fast-moving energy landscape to quickly identify the right solutions and vendors for their unique business needs.”
